GSoC 2010 Students

On March 18th we will know if InVesalius Community will be accepted as a mentoring organization, according to  GSoC timeline. Read this timeline to see important dates regarding GSoC.

Independently of GSoC, we motivate anyone to get involved in InVesalius development - just let us know! :)

Note: Before proposing a project through GSoC, make sure you have read all the  GSoC FAQs, in order to understand the program, and see if you are a eligible student.

How to apply to InVesalius project

Propose a project using our template:

  • Based on your own idea (we suggest contacting us and the Community before)
  • Based on an idea from the Ideas List

We have great interest on discussing project ideas, just contact us!

Once you've made a proposal, you should submit do Google in the  appropriate date.

Students Duties

Students are expected to:

  • Work hard on their projects, like a full-time job (schedule can be flexible sometimes)
  • Be self-motivated. The mentors can help motivating the students, but if the student is not self-motivated to work, then the student probably won't get much out of participating in GSoC.
  • Schedule time to work on the project each day following the schedule accorded with the mentor. It's not acceptable to fiddle around for days and then work over night just before deadlines.
  • Communicate often and participate in InVesalius Community

Students Benefits

The students will...

  • Have a chance to participate in the development of projects that will be used around the world;
  • Become part of a global community - this can be lead to involvement in several project, social networks, make good friends around the world, and access to valuable resources;
  • Have his/her work used for resume material for future employers;
  • Have a CV upgrade.

Selection Process

InVesalius mentors will comment the students application, focusing in these aspects:

  • The general project idea;
  • What the project brings to InVesalius;
  • The scope of the project (will be used for a large user base or just a minority);
  • The technical aspects of the project;
  • The chances that the project have to be concluded during the GSoC period.

After the initial application reviews, a group of mentors will choose the best projects based in the comments made previously. Some mentors can ask for small coding assignments during the selection period, in order to choose the best students.
